- 1 cup black eyed peas
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
- Rinse the black eyed peas under cold water.
- In a pot, combine the peas and water. Bring to a boil.
- Add the chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil, cumin, and bay leaf.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes until peas are tender.
- Remove bay leaf before serving.
Notes
- Soaking peas overnight can reduce cooking time.
- Adjust seasoning to taste.
