Description

Bomboloni are Italian donuts that are soft, fluffy, and filled with sweet cream or jam.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Filling of your choice (cream or jam)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, combine flour, salt, and eggs.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour mixture. Mix until dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut into circles.
  7. Fill half of the circles with filling and top with another circle.
  8. Seal the edges and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Heat oil in a deep pot and fry the donuts until golden brown.
  10. Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar.
