Description
A simple brine for turkey that enhances flavor and moisture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup kosher salt
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 gallon water
- 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
- 1 tablespoon allspice berries
- 6 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 tablespoon thyme
- 1 tablespoon rosemary
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
Instructions
- Dissolve salt and sugar in 1 gallon of water in a large pot.
- Add peppercorns, allspice, garlic, thyme, rosemary, orange, and lemon.
- Bring to a boil, then let cool completely.
- Submerge turkey in brine and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours.
- Remove turkey from brine and rinse under cold water.
- Pat dry and cook as desired.
Notes
- For best results, use a fresh turkey.
- Adjust brine ingredients based on turkey size.
- Brine can be prepared a day in advance.
