Description
A traditional Chinese New Year cake shaped like a rooster to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups glutinous rice flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- Black sesame seeds
Instructions
- Mix glutinous rice flour, sugar, and water in a bowl.
- Add vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
- Divide the mixture into three bowls.
- Color one bowl red, one bowl yellow, and leave one plain.
- Grease a rooster-shaped mold.
- Pour the red mixture into the mold and steam for 10 minutes.
- Add the yellow mixture and steam for another 10 minutes.
- Add the plain mixture and steam for 15 minutes.
- Let cool, then remove from the mold.
- Decorate with black sesame seeds for eyes.
Notes
- Use a steamer or a pot with a steaming rack.
- Adjust the coloring as desired.
- Serve at room temperature.
