Description

A traditional Chinese New Year cake shaped like a rooster to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Black sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Mix glutinous rice flour, sugar, and water in a bowl.
  2. Add vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
  3. Divide the mixture into three bowls.
  4. Color one bowl red, one bowl yellow, and leave one plain.
  5. Grease a rooster-shaped mold.
  6. Pour the red mixture into the mold and steam for 10 minutes.
  7. Add the yellow mixture and steam for another 10 minutes.
  8. Add the plain mixture and steam for 15 minutes.
  9. Let cool, then remove from the mold.
  10. Decorate with black sesame seeds for eyes.

Notes

  • Use a steamer or a pot with a steaming rack.
  • Adjust the coloring as desired.
  • Serve at room temperature.
