Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • Red and green food coloring
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • Decorative Christmas-themed sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  6. Mix in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  7. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk, alternating between them.
  8. Divide the batter into two bowls. Color one with red food coloring and the other with green.
  9. Pour the batters into prepared pans and swirl them lightly.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Let cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely.
  12. For frosting, beat ½ cup butter and gradually add powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  13. Frost the cooled cakes and decorate with sprinkles.
