Description

Crispy falafel balls are a popular Middle Eastern dish made from ground chickpeas and herbs. They are flavorful, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas.
  2. In a food processor, combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pulse until a coarse mixture forms, being careful not to puree.
  4. Chill the mixture for 30 minutes for better handling.
  5. Form the mixture into small balls or patties.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the falafel in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  8. Drain on paper towels before serving.

Notes

  • Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature for even cooking.
  • Serve with tahini sauce or in pita bread.
  • For baked falafel, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25 minutes, flipping halfway.
