Description
Crispy falafel balls are a popular Middle Eastern dish made from ground chickpeas and herbs. They are flavorful, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside.
Ingredients

- 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the soaked chickpeas.
- In a food processor, combine chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Pulse until a coarse mixture forms, being careful not to puree.
- Chill the mixture for 30 minutes for better handling.
- Form the mixture into small balls or patties.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the falafel in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
- Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature for even cooking.
- Serve with tahini sauce or in pita bread.
- For baked falafel, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25 minutes, flipping halfway.
