Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 cups apples or peaches, peeled and chopped

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Add butter and shortening, mix until crumbly.
  3. Stir in cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until dough forms.
  4. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. In another bowl, mix fruit, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  6. Roll out dough and cut into circles.
  7. Place filling on one half of each circle.
  8. Fold over and seal edges with a fork.
  9. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  10. Fry pies until golden brown on both sides.
  11. Drain on paper towels before serving.
