A delicious recipe for glazed sourdough donuts.

- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- Oil for frying
- 2 cups powdered sugar for glaze
- 4 tablespoons milk for glaze
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for glaze
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix sourdough starter, milk, sugar, melted butter, and eggs.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, and yeast.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick and cut out donut shapes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the donuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Dip warm donuts into the glaze and allow to set.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature is correct for even frying.
- Store any leftover donuts in an airtight container.
- You can add sprinkles to the glaze if desired.
