Description
A traditional Greek cake served during New Year’s celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 coin (for the tradition)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar together.
- Add eggs and vanilla to the butter mixture.
- Mix in the milk gradually.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients.
- Fold in chopped walnuts.
- Pour batter into a greased cake pan.
- Insert the coin randomly into the batter.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool before serving.
Notes
- Decorate with powdered sugar if desired.
- Serve with a side of Greek coffee.
