Greek New Year’s Cake: 5 Steps to Blissful Tradition

Description

A traditional Greek cake served during New Year’s celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 coin (for the tradition)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar together.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla to the butter mixture.
  5. Mix in the milk gradually.
  6. Combine the wet and dry ingredients.
  7. Fold in chopped walnuts.
  8. Pour batter into a greased cake pan.
  9. Insert the coin randomly into the batter.
  10. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Decorate with powdered sugar if desired.
  • Serve with a side of Greek coffee.
