- 2 lbs chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook chicken for 6-7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked and internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Remove chicken from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Warm pita breads on the grill for 1-2 minutes.
- Assemble gyros by placing sliced chicken on pita, then topping with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, and red onion.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper to the marinade.
- Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking temperature.
- Serve with lemon wedges for added freshness.
