Ingredients

  • 1 ham bone
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the ham bone in a large pot.
  2. Add water and bring to a boil.
  3. Add potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, thyme, and bay leaf.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  5. Remove the ham bone and let it cool.
  6. Shred the meat from the bone and return it to the soup.
  7. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Serve hot.
