Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing it with warm water and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the well. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a rope, about 8 inches long. Tie each rope into a knot.
  8. Place knots on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
