Description
A detailed recipe for making homemade garlic knots, featuring a rich garlic flavor and a soft, chewy texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing it with warm water and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the well. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a rope, about 8 inches long. Tie each rope into a knot.
- Place knots on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the knots with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic, parsley, and red pepper flakes.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm, optionally with marinara sauce.
Notes
- For a stronger garlic flavor, increase the amount of garlic.
- Experiment with different herbs like oregano or basil.
- These knots can be frozen before baking. Thaw and bake when ready.
