Description
Delicious homemade German chocolate cake with rich chocolate layers and coconut pecan frosting.

- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
- Stir in boiling water until combined.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- For frosting, combine evaporated milk, butter, brown sugar, and cook over medium heat until thickened.
- Remove from heat, stir in coconut and pecans.
- Spread frosting between cake layers and on top.
Notes
- Store cake in an airtight container.
- Best served at room temperature.
- Can be made a day in advance.
