Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat milk and sugar over medium heat until steaming.
  2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.
  3. Slowly pour hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Pour custard into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
