Description
This homemade vanilla custard is creamy and rich, perfect for desserts or as a base for other dishes.
Ingredients

- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat milk and sugar over medium heat until steaming.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.
- Slowly pour hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour custard into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
- Can be served warm or cold.
