Description
A classic turkey recipe by Ina Garten for Thanksgiving.
Ingredients

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 2 onions, quartered
- 4 carrots, cut into chunks
- 4 celery stalks, cut into chunks
- 1 bunch fresh thyme
- 1 bunch fresh rosemary
- 1 bunch fresh sage
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey innards and pat the turkey dry.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
- Sprinkle salt and pepper inside and outside the turkey.
- Stuff the cavity with onions, carrots, celery, and herbs.
- Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
- Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Roast the turkey for about 3 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Brining the turkey overnight improves flavor.
- Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
