- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 2 onions, quartered
- 4 carrots, cut into chunks
- 4 celery stalks, cut into chunks
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
- Season the turkey with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and surround it with onions, carrots, and celery.
- Pour chicken broth into the pan.
- Cover the turkey with aluminum foil.
- Roast for about 3 to 3.5 hours, removing the foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
- Check the internal temperature. It should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

- Letting the turkey rest helps retain juices.
