Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 jars (24 ounces each) marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until softened.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
  7. Combine cooked ziti with meat sauce and ricotta mixture.
  8. Transfer half of the ziti mixture to a baking dish. Layer half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on top.
  9. Add the remaining ziti mixture and top with the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • Allow the dish to cool slightly before serving.
  • Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
