Description
A warm spiced red wine drink perfect for winter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 bottle of red wine (750ml)
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1/4 cup of honey or sugar
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 5 whole cloves
- 2 star anise
- 1/4 cup of brandy (optional)
Instructions
- Pour the red wine into a large pot.
- Add the sliced orange, lemon, honey or sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
- Heat over medium heat until warm, but do not let it boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes.
- If using, stir in the brandy just before serving.
- Strain the mixture and serve warm in mugs or heatproof glasses.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness to your taste.
- Garnish with additional fruit slices if desired.
- Can be made a day in advance and reheated.
