Description

Nanaimo bars are a no-bake dessert with a layered structure, featuring a crumb base, custard filling, and chocolate topping.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 cups vanilla custard powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs, cocoa powder, shredded coconut, softened butter, and powdered sugar.
  2. Add the beaten egg and mix until combined.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 8×8 inch pan.
  4. In another bowl, mix custard powder and milk until smooth.
  5. Spread the custard over the graham cracker base.
  6. Melt chocolate and butter in a double boiler or microwave.
  7. Pour the chocolate mixture over the custard layer.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares.
