Description

A classic roasted turkey recipe for Thanksgiving.


Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 4 cups bread cubes
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Prepare the turkey by removing the giblets and patting it dry.
  3. In a bowl, mix butter, salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, and sage.
  4. Rub the butter mixture under the skin and on the outside of the turkey.
  5. In a large pan, sauté onion, carrots, and celery until soft.
  6. Add bread cubes to the pan and mix well.
  7. Stuff the turkey with the bread mixture.
  8. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth over it.
  9. Cover with foil and roast for 3-3.5 hours, removing the foil in the last hour.
  10. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
  11. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
  • Let leftovers cool before storing.
  • Can substitute fresh herbs for dried herbs.
