  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, mix butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme.
  4. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  5. Stuff the cavity with onion, carrots, and celery.
  6. Place the turkey breast side up on a roasting pan.
  7. Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  8. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
  9. Roast the turkey for about 3 hours, basting every 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil in the last hour to brown the skin.
  11. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
  12. Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
