A classic roast turkey recipe for Thanksgiving.

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
- Season the turkey inside and out with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Stuff the turkey cavity with onion, carrots, celery, and fresh herbs.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth around it.
- Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
- Roast for about 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Remove the foil in the last 30 minutes for a golden-brown skin.
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
- Brining the turkey overnight can enhance flavor and moisture.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
