Ingredients

  • 3 cups peeled and sliced apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. In a separate bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  7. Spread half of the dough in a greased baking dish.
  8. Layer the spiced apples over the dough.
  9. Drop remaining dough over the apples in spoonfuls.
  10. Sprinkle sugar on top.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
