Description
Traditional dishes served during the Sri Lankan New Year.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups rice
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup green gram
- 1 cup jaggery
- 1 cup palm sugar
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 cup cashew nuts
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash the rice and soak it for 30 minutes.
- Cook the rice with coconut milk and a pinch of salt until soft.
- Boil the green gram separately until tender.
- In a pan, melt jaggery and palm sugar together.
- Add grated coconut, cashew nuts, raisins, and spices to the jaggery mixture.
- Combine the cooked rice and green gram with the jaggery mixture.
- Mix well and serve warm.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness according to your taste.
- Use fresh coconut for better flavor.
- Garnish with additional nuts if desired.
