A collection of traditional southern Thanksgiving side dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups collard greens, chopped
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup cornbread, crumbled
- 2 cups green beans, trimmed
- 1 cup diced potatoes
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Wash collard greens and remove tough stems.
- In a large pot, sauté onions and garlic until soft.
- Add collard greens and chicken broth. Cook until tender.
- Boil green beans and potatoes in salted water until tender.
- In a bowl, combine cornbread, milk, and butter. Mix well.
- Pour cornbread mixture into a baking dish and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
- Serve all dishes warm on the Thanksgiving table.
Notes
- Feel free to add ham hocks for extra flavor in collard greens.
- Adjust seasoning according to your taste.
- Green beans can be sautéed with bacon for added richness.
