Description
A delicious Thanksgiving main dish featuring roasted turkey.
Ingredients

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
- Season with salt and pepper inside and out.
- Stuff the cavity with onion, carrots, celery, rosemary, and thyme.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth around it.
- Cover with foil and roast for 2-2.5 hours.
- Remove the foil and roast for an additional 30-60 minutes until the skin is golden brown.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.

- Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
- Let the turkey rest to retain juices.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
