Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry.
  3. Rub the butter and olive oil all over the turkey.
  4. Season the turkey inside and out with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Stuff the cavity with lemon, onion, rosemary, and thyme.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan breast side up.
  7. Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  8. Cover the turkey with foil and roast for 2 hours.
  9. Remove the foil and roast for an additional 1 to 1.5 hours until golden brown.
  10. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
  11. Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
