This dish is a traditional Chinese New Year favorite, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of glutinous rice
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of dried mushrooms, soaked
- 1/2 cup of diced carrots
- 1/2 cup of cooked chicken, shredded
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 1/4 cup of green onions, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the glutinous rice until the water runs clear.
- Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the rice and mix it with the soaked mushrooms, carrots, chicken, soy sauce, sesame oil, and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the mixture into a steamer and steam for about 30-40 minutes.
- Remove from the steamer and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm for best flavor.
- Can be made a day in advance and reheated.
- Feel free to add other ingredients like shrimp or pork.
