Description
This is a traditional Greek dessert served during the New Year, known as Vasilopita.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 coin (for good luck)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a round cake pan.
- In a bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
- Stir in milk and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
- Fold in walnuts.
- Pour half the batter into the pan, place the coin, then cover with remaining batter.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- Serve with a cup of coffee or tea.
- Decorate with powdered sugar before serving.
