Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage)
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 onion, quartered

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry.
  3. In a bowl, mix butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  5. Stuff the cavity with lemon, onion, and fresh herbs.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth around it.
  7. Cover the turkey with foil and roast for 2.5 hours.
  8. Remove the foil and roast for another 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Letting the turkey rest enhances juiciness.
