- 1 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, browned
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- In a saucepan, reduce the apple cider over medium heat until it is about 1/4 cup.
- Brown the butter in a separate pan and let it cool slightly.
- In a bowl, mix the flours, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, reduced apple cider, and browned butter.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- These donuts are best eaten fresh.
- You can dust them with powdered sugar or dip them in cinnamon sugar.
