Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling
  • Brown chocolate melts for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Divide dough into small pieces and roll into rods.
  6. Boil water with baking soda in a pot.
  7. Dip each pretzel rod into boiling water for 30 seconds.
  8. Place rods on a baking sheet and brush with beaten egg.
  9. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Once cooled, decorate with melted chocolate.
