Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
- Water (as needed for icing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar.
- Add molasses and eggs to the butter mixture, then mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
- Roll out the dough and cut out roof shapes.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until firm.
- Let cool completely before decorating.
- Mix powdered sugar with water to make icing.
- Decorate the roof pieces with icing.
Notes
- Ensure the dough is not too sticky for easy rolling.
- Use a serrated knife to trim edges for a better fit.
- Allow ample time for the icing to dry before assembling.
