  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  9. For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  10. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until fluffy.
  11. Frost the cooled cakes and stack them.
