Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 56 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and blend well.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out shapes and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let cookies cool completely.
  10. For royal icing, mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  11. Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing.

  • You can color the royal icing with food coloring.
